Geo-Informatics Laboratory is a multi-discipline laboratory for research and teaching in the area of Geo-Informatics. The Lab covers the disciplines of geographical information systems (GIS), remote sensing, virtual reality, database management systems and expert systems. In GIS area, the Lab is equipped with software such as Arc/Info 8.1 (including the major extension modules), ArcView 8.0, MapGuide, MapInfo 3.1, Genamap, Mircostation, GeoMedia Professional and Webmap, and other products from Intergraph. In the area of remote sensing, the Lab is equipped with ER-Mapper 6.0 and PCO-Investigator with 2 sets of XP and 1 set of Unix. The Lab also has Oracle database and G2 expert system software packages.
There are both Unix workstations and PCs in the Lab. The workstations include 3 sets Sun Sparc 20 servers (Model 50), HP servers, 1 set Digital Unix v4.0 878 Alpha (533au2 dual CPUs, 2 GB RAM, 81 GM HD). These workstations are linked to each other through network. Other hardware includes an A0 size Calcomp 9500 digitizer, an A1 size HP7580 plotter and an A0 size color HP 650C DesignJet plotter. The Lab also has 15 PCs and A4 printers.
