The knowledge and skills that are acquired at the Higher Diploma level prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities. They are able to work as land/engineering surveying/geo-information systems (GIS) technicians in the construction industry or a government department, or as programmers/information technologists in the IT industry.

Programme Characteristics

The programme is well recognised by the profession in Hong Kong and abroad. Our teaching staff members are internationally recognised and our laboratory facilities are state of the art.

Students can choose between two specialisms, Land Surveying or Geo-Information Technology, after one year of study. Graduates can apply to study in Year Two of a related BSc(Hons) degree in a local or overseas university.

Programme Structure

  • Year One is common to both specialisms, and teaches basic geomatics.
  • In Year Two, those students who specialise in Land Surveying study more advanced Core Subjects in the field. Those who choose the Geo-Information Technology specialism concentrate more on spatial data acquisition.
