Academic Programmes

Postgraduate-level subject-based Study (for Semester 1, 2009-10)

The Department of LSGI now offers a series of postgraduate-level Geomatics subjects. Students can choose to take one or more of the following subjects, depending on their interests and will receive a Transcript of Studies from the University plus a Certificate of Achievement from the Department. Up to 18 credits can be transferred to the MSc in Geomatics (GIS/Surveying) programme if you register for programme at a later date.

Subjects to be offered in Semster 1 of 2009/2010

  • Principles of GIS
    An introductory subject for beginners and covers fundamental theories and concepts to prepare for more advanced GIS subjects.


  • Spatial Data Acquisition
    Fundamental concepts and technologies related to the acquisition of spatial data used in GIS. Topics include photogrammetry, laser scanning, GPS and field surveying.


  • Spatial data Visualisation and Modeling
    Concepts and technologies behind the representation, modeling and presentation of spatial data in 2D, 3D, and 4D modes. The prime focus is on digital processes and covers both conventional and multi-scale mapping.


  • Satellite Positioning and Navigation
    An in-depth study of the state-of-the-art in satellite, inertial and other systems, their integration, and their application to point positioning and real-time navigation.

   
Term duration: September 2009 – January 2010
Class schedule(s): 1 weekday evening per Subject (6:30 pm - 9:30 pm)
Credits / Tuition fees: 3 Credits per Subject / $2,700 per Credit
