PhD Postgraduate degree with a significant research component (e.g. a dissertation) or First Class Honours Bachelor degree from a recognized university**

MPhil Bachelor's degree (second class honours or above) from a recognized university**

Applicants from university at which English is not the medium of instruction and have not lived in English speaking countries for more than one year, have to meet the following language requirement:

• IELTS (International English Language Test System): a score of 6 or above; or
• TOFEL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) paper-based test: 550 or above; computer-based test: 213 or above; internet-based test:79 or above

* The Department may accept applications with other equivalent qualifications. The decision is made on an individual basis.

** An MPhil student with exceptionally good performance may also be directly transferred to PhD study.
