Degrees and qualifications

Postgraduate-level subject-based Study
(for Semester 1, 2019-20)

The Department of LSGI now offers a series of postgraduate-level Geomatics subjects. Students can choose to take one or more of the following subjects, depending on their interests and will receive a Transcript of Studies from the University plus a Certificate of Achievement from the Department. Up to 18 credits can be transferred to the MSc in Geomatics (GIS/Surveying) programme if you register for programme at a later date.

Subjects to be offered in Semester 1 of 2019/2020

  • LSGI521 Principles of GIS    (3 credits)  

    An introductory subject for beginners and covers fundamental theories and concepts to prepare for more advanced GIS subjects.

  • LSGI522 Spatial Data Acquisition    (3 credits)    

    Fundamental concepts and technologies related to the acquisition of spatial data used in GIS. Topics include coordinate systems, photogrammetry, laser scanning, GNSS, and terrestrial surveys.

  • LSGI532 Spatial data Visualisation and Modelling    (3 credits)    

    Concepts, principles and technologies behind the multi-scale modelling and representation of spatial data in 2D, 3D, and 4D modes. The focus is on digital processes of scalling and its effect on modelling and representation.

  • LSGI533 Satellite Positioning and Navigation    (3 credits)  

    An in-depth study of the state-of-the-art in satellite, inertial and other systems, their integration, and their application to point positioning and real-time navigation.

Week 1 : One weekday evening per subject (LSGI521, LSGI522, LSGI532, LSGI533)
Week 2 – 7 : Two weekday evenings per subject (LSGI521 & LSGI522)
Week 8 – 13 : Two weekday evenings per subject (LSGI532 & LSGI533)
Tuition fees:
HK$4,200 per credit
