Laboratory for Deformation and Geohazards Studies

The Laboratory for Deformation and Geohazards Studies is located in room ZB214, Block Z, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The Laboratory facilitates research in developing new technologies such as GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems), InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) and in-situ sensor based technologies, and in studying geohazards such as landslides, earthquakes, land subsidence and structural health. The laboratory is equipped with advanced hardware and software.

Hardware

  • A ground-based radar (GAMMA Portable Radar Interferometer II)
  • An inertial navigation system (INS)
  • GNSS equipment, including multi-GNSS and multi-antenna receivers
  • Navigation and deformation measurement sensors, including accelerometers, barometers, anemometers, EDM, and total stations
  • UAV systems
  • Corner reflectors

Software

  • Gamma SAR Processor and Interferometry Software
  • Temporally coherent point InSAR, a software suite developed by the deformation survey research group at PolyU
  • Anchor Deformation Monitoring System, a software suite developed by the deformation survey research group at PolyU
