Project Details
The AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) project is a federation of ground-based remote sensing aerosol networks established by NASA and PHOTONS. This project has provided long-term, continuous and readily accessible public domain database of aerosol, microphysical and radiative properties for aerosol research and characterization, validation of satellite retrievals, and synergism with other databases. Our research team has established three AERONET stations in Hong Kong since 2005, in collaboration with NASA, for input to, and validation of atmospheric corrections.
The three AERONET stations are Hong_Kong_Hok_Tsiu Station which is mounted on a concrete platform, on a remote peninsula in the south, east of Hong Kong island, for measuring marine aerosols, Hong_Kong_PolyU Station which is mounted on a heavy metal cabinet, on the roof of the library in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (40m), a city center location in Hong Kong, for measuring urban aerosols and Hong_Kong_Sheung Station which is mounted on a concrete wall, on the roof of Hong Kong Elegantia College, for measuring the rural and long-transported aerosols.
