How to Get to PolyU and Hotels Nearby PolyU

 

(1)        From Hong Kong International Airport (the only Airport in Hong Kong) to PolyU

 

(1.1) Taxi: from Hong Kong International Airport to PolyU, the total taxi cost should be about HK$300 (about US$40). The distance is about 34 km and costs about 40 minutes.

 

OR 

 

(1.2) Airport Express Railway (plus a short distance Taxi): You may take the Airport Express Railway from Airport to “Kowloon station” first, which takes you about 21 minutes. The Railway ticket can be purchased at the Airport at a price of HK$90. After you get off the “Kowloon station”, you may take a taxi to PolyU, which will take you about 15-20 minute at a price of about HK$50.

 

Service Hours:

From Airport to ”Kowloon station”, the first train departs airport at 05:54 AM. The last train departs airport at 00:48AM.

 

From “Kowloon station” to Airport, the first train departs ”Kowloon station” at 05:53 AM. The last train departs ”Kowloon station” at 00:52AM. 

 

OR

 

(1.3) Some hotels have direct shuttle bus between the Airport and their hotels. But this is usually not free. The bus ticket usually is close to HK$120. From the hotels, you then get to PolyU.      

 

(2)        From Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, Mainland China to PolyU

Detailed Map from Hong Kong to Guangzhou

(2.1)  There is one train going between Hong Kong and Guangzhou directly. It takes about 120 minutes and the price is HK$190 per single trip or RMB 154 per single trip (either RMB or HK$ is accepted at the ticket count).

(2.2)  From Guangzhou, the departure station is “Guangzhou East Railway Station”. (different from the above “Kowloon Station”).

(2.3)  The destination at Hong Kong is called “Hung Hom Station”. This “Hung Hom Station” is just 50 meters from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Campus.

(2.4)  According to the Chinese customs regulation, passengers are advised to arrive at “Guangzhou East Railway Station” 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time for customs formalities. The boarding gate will be closed 10 minutes before the train departs.

(2.5)  Many countries’ visitors to Hong Kong do not need a visa. However a visa is often required to enter into China.

(2.6)  The frequency of the train is 12 times per day from Guangzhou to Hong Kong. This train has a middle stop at Dongguang station.

(3.1) From Shenzhen to PolyU, you may take a train. This train is called “East Line MTR train”. It takes about 60 minutes from Shenzhen to Hong Kong’s destination. The destination at Hong Kong is called “Hung Hom Station”. This “Hung Hom Station” is just 50 meters from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Campus.

 

(3.2) There are more than 2 customs between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Two customs can be accessed via Train. One is Luo-Hu customs and the other is Fu-tian customs.

 

(3.3) Option 1: from Shenzhen’s Fu-tian Customs to Hong Kong

 (Note: the Fu-tian customs is called Fu-tian customs by Shenzhen. It is called Lok Ma Chau at the Hong Kong side. It is somewhat confusing for the non-local visitors).

 

The first train leaves Shenzhen’s Fu-tian customs for Hong Kong is: 06:38 AM in the morning, Monday to Sunday.

 

The last train leaves Shenzhen’s Fu-tian customs for Hong Kong is: 22:55, Monday to Sunday

 

OR

 

(3.4) Option 2: From Shenzhen’s Luo Hu Customs to Hong Kong

(Note: the Luo Hu customs is called Luo Hu customs by Shenzhen. It is called Lo Wu at the Hong Kong side. It is somewhat confusing for the non-local visitors).

The first train leaves Shenzhen’s Luo Hu customs (i.e. Lo Wu called by Hong Kong) for Hong Kong is: 05:55 AM in the morning, Monday to Sunday

 

The last train leaves Shenzhen’s Luo Hu customs (i.e. Lo Wu called by Hong Kong) for Hong Kong is: 00:30 AM in the morning, Monday to Sunday

 

From PolyU to Mainland China (e.g. Guangzhou, Shenzhen, etc)

(2.1)  There is one train going between Hong Kong and Guangzhou directly. It takes about 120 minutes and the price is HK$190 per single trip.

(2.2)  From Hong Kong, the departure station is “Hung Hom Station” (different from the above “Kowloon Station”). This “Hung Hom Station” is just 50 meters from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Campus.

(2.3)  The destination at Guangzhou is called “Guangzhou East Railway Station”

(2.4)  According to the Train company’s website notice (http://www.it3.mtr.com.hk/B2C/frmNotice.asp?strLang=Eng) , passengers are advised to arrive at “Hung Hom Station” 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time for customs formalities. The boarding gate will be closed 10 minutes before the train departs.

Some extra information about transportation

 

(1) From Shenzhen Airport to the Shenzhen customs (Shenzhen-Hong Kong boundary)

 

(1.1) Take the Shenzhen Airport's train (directly at the airport) directly to the Shenzhen’s Luo Hu costoms. It will take about 60 minutes.

OR

(1.2) Take Shenzhen Airport's shuttle bus (bus ticket is RMB20 and can be purchased just at Airport). It is shorter than 60 minutes.

OR

(1.3) Take a taxi.

 

(2) From Hong Kong International Airport to Guangzhou by Bus

 

(2.1) Passengers can take bus directly from Hong Kong International Airport to Guangzhou with a 3-hour trip.

(2.2) Similarly, passengers can take bus directly from Guangzhou to Hong Kong International Airport with a 3-hour trip.

 

(3) From Hong Kong to Wuhan (Wuhan Univeristy)

 

(3.1) Take flight from Hong Kong International Airport to Wuhan International Airport. It takes about 2 hours.

 

OR

 

(3.2) Take a Train from Hong Kong to Shenzhen’s Fu-tian customs (described above). Then take the Shenzhen’s subway directly at Fu-tian customs to the “Shenzhen North Station” (Taking taxi is not a good option. It is not faster but more expensive). From “Shenzhen North Station”, take the High-speed train from “Shenzhen North Station” to “Wuhan Station”. It takes about 4.5~5 hours. The 2nd class ticket is RMB540 per single trip.
