Background

The word "Cadastre" is familiar for surveying professionals. Although it may not be found in general dictionary, but it does not means that Cadastral survey did not relate to our daily life. It is especially concerned by who own rights of a land parcel.

I found that there are many differences between cadastral surveying practices, laws, mapping system and professional system in different countries in the world. Characteristics of cadastral survey in Hong Kong maybe interested by foregin surveyors.

With the rapid development of Computer and Internet technologies, people around the world can exchange information quickly, easily, directly. Also, it's the most cost-efficiency way to publicate information to all users. So, it will be a good idea to present the Hong Kong cadastral surveying to interested parties over the world.

Internet become very common in modern world. Product in the form of web pages will be convinence for public access. Although it's quiet different with dissertations in traditional paper works, but it would be a trend in coming years.

At the moment of proposing this information website as my final year project, there were no specialized web sites provide information about cadastral surveying system in Hong Kong. There are necessary to produce a specialized web site as a quick reference about the practices of boundary definition in Hong Kong for surveyign students, general publics and interested parties.

Objectives

Here are objectives of HKLBSIP:

i) Become cadastral information center open for general publics.

ii) Provide professional information and hoped to be understand by general public.

iii) Easy to access, easy to use.

iv) Open 24-hour a day .

v) Interactive to user, such as Q&A games or questionnaires.

vi) Able to communicate interested user by e-mail.

vii) Promote professional surveying to general publics.

viii) Contribute to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Introduction

Boundary definition is one of the main issues of cadastral studies. I'll summarize and review what I knew about the cadastral studies and present some more relevant information about:

1. Professional surveying system - System history, important event affect the cadastral system in Hong Kong - Co-ordinate system in Hong Kong used in past and present - The concept of "best available evidence"

2. Cadastral practice in Hong Kong (Land survey product / Field works).

3. Introduce professional survey service mainly provided in Hong Kong - Setting out or Sub-division of land parcel.

4. Promote role of surveyor and professional surveyor institution in Hong Kong

- Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS)

- Registered Professional Surveyors (RPS)

- Authorized Land Surveyors (ALS)
